Most people today are 'unconscious', that is, they are in 'default mode' and typically, as a result, your brain is screaming for expansion, something uncommon. If you listen to music, attend concerts, watch sports you are searching for altered states/expansion and more often than not you are prepared to pay for this. 'Altered states' is a trillion dollar industry worldwide.
Humans are searching for a higher self/expansion, the hack is to look inside, to reverse engineer our current belief systems to construct a selection of pillars that will bear the weight, the bombardment of external pressures we face every day. Do I look ok? What will happen tomorrow? Is this the job for me?
In 'default mode' our brain will process a present experiences comparing it to data/memories from past experiences. Generally, the prediction/outcome renders us in the perpetual future with anxiety.
Good news is, its seldom surprising. Bad news is, it is seldom surprising.
This is where the 'common place' comment thrives.
This can be hacked.
'There is no talent here. This is hard work. This is an obsession. You could be anyone if you put in the time' Connor McGregor
The pillars of reference are those habits that you turn too when it goes dark in your own mind, they are the lighthouses you move towards. If you can build and master the pillars of reference through consistency, it is this sequence which will allow you the tools to bend the universe to your will. Matt Englund
